The Hague, 4 July 1996
CC/PIO/096-E

Erdemovic case : pre-sentencing hearing postponed.

An in camera status conference was held today in the Erdemovic case.

Its purpose was to discuss the results of the psychological and psychiatric examination which has been carried out by three independent experts (two from the Netherlands and one from Yugoslavia) on the accused.

The latter has been found insufficiently able to stand trial at this moment because of a post-traumatic stress disorder.

On that basis, the Judges of Trial Chamber I decided that the pre-sentencing hearing which was scheduled for 8 and 9 July 1996 should be postponed.

A new date will be set after an updated assessment of the accused has been undertaken. This assessment will have to take place before 1 October 1996.
