Outreach joins the debate at University of Niš

Niš, 13. March 2013.

Morgiana Brading, the Tribunal’s Outreach representative in Serbia today travelled to the southern Serbian city of Niš to take part in a debate at the local university’s law faculty. The debate was organised by the OSCE Mission in Serbia and speakers included Dušan Jovanović (OSCE), Dragan Pjevač (Serbian associations of the families of the missing persons from the former Yugoslavia) and Slavica Peković (Witness and Victims Unit, Belgrade Higher Court). Around 40 students and their professors were in the audience.

The speakers talked about transitional justice and systems for the protection of witnesses and victims, but the discussion that followed focused almost entirely on the recent judgement in case of Gotovina et al.

Morgiana explained the Appeal Chamber’s reasoning in acquitting the Croatian generals in Gotovina et al., and also the reasons for the recent retrial acquittal of three former Kosovo Liberation Army members in the Haradinaj et al. case.
