Media Accreditation now open for testimony of Ratko Mladić in the case of Radovan Karadžić
Pursuant to the subpoena issued by Trial Chamber in December 2013, the testimony of General Ratko Mladić in the case of Radovan Karadžić will commence on 28 January 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in Courtroom 1.
The trial against Radovan Karadžić commenced on 26 October 2009. Karadžić, former President of Republika Srpska, head of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) and Supreme Commander of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) is charged with two counts of genocide and a multitude of other crimes committed against Bosnian Muslim, Bosnian Croat and other non-Serb civilians in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992-1995 war. The Prosecution rested its case on 25 May 2012. The Defence case commenced on 16 October 2012.
Ratko Mladić, former Commander of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) Main Staff, stands accused before the ICTY of genocide and a number of crimes committed against Bosnian Muslim, Bosnian Croat and other non-Serb civilians in Bosnia and Herzegovina from May 1992 to late 1995.
Due to space limitations, all media representatives wishing to enter court building on the day of Mladić’s testimony must submit an accreditation request by email to press [at] icty.org by Friday, 24 January, 12:00 noon. The accreditation will be valid for the entirety of the testimony, should it go beyond one day.
The email should contain the name of the media outlet as well as full name, passport number and contact details of all journalists and AV technicians coming to the Tribunal.
Other members of the public wishing to attend the hearing should send an email to kralt.icty [at] un.org for more information on the procedure to follow and the available space.
The hearing will be broadcast with 30 minutes delay on the Tribunal’s website
