Visit by Mrs. Herta Däubler- Gmelin, Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic
of Germany to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

On Tuesday 6 June 2000, Mrs. Herta Däubler-Gmelin, Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany visited the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Mrs. Däubler-Gmelin was accompanied by senior members of the German Ministry of Justice and officials from the German Embassy in The Hague.

During the visit they met with the President of the Tribunal, Judge Claude Jorda, together with the Registrar, Mrs. Dorothee de Sampayo Garrido-Nijgh, and the Prosecutor of the ICTY, Carla Del Ponte, along with other senior members of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP).

This high-level visit and a previous one made on 6 March 1997 by the former Federal Minister of Justice of Germany, Professor Dr. Edzard Schmidt-Jortzig, continue to underscore the quality and the level of support given to the Tribunal by the Federal Republic of Germany.

On 23 July 1999, Germany signed agreements with the United Nations for the provision of experts to work on a gratis basis with the OTP in its investigations on the ground in Kosovo.
