The United Kingdom: The 10th State to Sign an Agreement on the Enforcement of Sentences with the ICTY

Today, Thursday 11 March 2004, His Excellency Sir Colin Budd, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to The Netherlands, and Mr. David Tolbert, Deputy Registrar of the Tribunal, signed an Agreement on the enforcement of sentences handed down by the Tribunal. This is the first such agreement to be signed by a common law country.

The United Kingdom becomes the 10th United Nations Member State to enter into such an Agreement, after Italy (signed 6 February 1997), Finland (7 May 1997), Norway (24 April 1998), Sweden (23 February 1999), Austria (23 July 1999), France (25 February 2000), Spain (28 March 2000), Denmark (4 June 2002) and Germany (signed two ad hoc agreements on 17 October 2000 with regards to Dusko Tadic and on 14 November 2002 with regards to Dragoljub Kunarac).

The Agreement will enter into force 30 days after today’s signing.
