Registry and Chambers:

Nerma Jelačić, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

The Trial Chamber in the case of Momčilo Perišić, former Chief of the General Staff of the Yugoslav Army (VJ), on Sunday 21 June 2009 began a seven-day site visit which will take them to Zagreb, Sarajevo and Srebrenica.

The visiting delegation consists of Judges Moloto (presiding), David and Picard from Trial Chamber I, as well as members of the Prosecution and Defence teams in the case and officials from the Tribunal’s Registry.

The Trial Chamber decided to conduct the site visit on its own accord. The Trial Chamber considered that it would be assisted to visit locations relevant to the case “in order to gain a better understanding of the facts at issue”.

Last week, a number of provisional release decisions were rendered:

Momčilo Krajišnik’s application for a custodial visit to see his gravely ill mother was granted on 17 June and he was provisionally released on Monday for three days only. While on provisional release, Krajišnik is under 24 hour surveillance of armed guards and he is required to return to the local detention facilities for overnight stay. He is expected in the UNDU on Friday.

In the Prlić and others case, the Trial Chamber granted the provisional release for Petković and Stojić on humanitarian grounds for a period not exceeding 12 days. Their provisional release will be subject to 24 hour surveillance. The exact dates are kept confidential and the decisions are stayed pending an appeal by prosecution.
