Weekly Press Briefing - 8 September 2010

Date:  8.9.2010
Time: 12:00

Registry and Chambers:

Christian Chartier, Acting Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon to all, and a special welcome to the group of five journalism students, in Belgrade, who are visiting the Tribunal this week.

In the case of Radovan Karadžić, the Trial Chamber yesterday issued an order to Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend a hearing pursuant to Rule 54bis on Friday, 15 October at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom I. The purpose of this hearing will be to hear from BiH on its efforts to date to provide the Accused with a number of documents on the alleged clandestine supply of arms. The Chamber has found the government’s co-operation in that particular respect to have been “problematic and fraught with delay” and considers it beneficial to hear from BiH before deciding on the Accused’s motion for the issuance of a Binding Order.

The Closing Arguments in the trial of Gotovina et al. finished last Wednesday. The Judgement will be rendered in due course at a date to be determined by the Chamber. The Press Office will inform the media as soon as a Scheduling Order has been filed.

Onto the Courtroom schedule for the remainder of and next week:

An administrative hearing will be held this coming Tuesday at 14:15 in the case of Šainović et al. This will be the second Status Conference to be held since the rendering of the Trial Chamber’s Judgement on 26 February 2009.

Hearings in the case of Radovan Karadžić, Mićo Stanišić and Stojan Župljanin, Zdravko Tolimir, Momčilo Perišić as well as Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović continue this week and next as scheduled.

Please note that the Tribunal will be closed tomorrow on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (the Celebration of Breaking the Fast, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting observed by Muslims). Hearings will resume on Friday morning.
