ICTY Weekly Press Briefing
Date: 10.11.2004
Time: 12.10 p.m.
Registry and Chambers:
Jim Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers,
made the following statement:
Good afternoon,
The President of the Tribunal, Judge Theodor Meron,
returned from his first ever trip to Croatia over the weekend. He
had a very intense and useful series of meetings with the leadership
of the country, the Judges of the Supreme Court and of the County
court in Zagreb. I can report that President Meron was impressed
with the growing professionalism of those Judges.
President Meron met yesterday with a delegation
from the parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by its Speaker,
Mr. Martin Raguz.
Tomorrow, President Meron will meet with members
of a European Union delegation who will be at the Tribunal as part
of a visit organised by the Dutch EU Presidency. The Registrar,
Hans Holthuis, will also address the delegation, as will the Deputy
Prosecutor.
Next week, on Monday, 15 November 2004, the trial
of Fatmir Limaj, Isak Musliu and Haradin Bala, will commence in
Courtroom I at 10 am. You are all of course welcome to attend that.
The continued further appearance of Ljubisa Beara
will be held tomorrow 11 November at 3 p.m. in Courtroom I.
Office of the Prosecutor:
Florence Hartmann for the Office of the Prosecutor
made no statement.
Questions:
A journalist asked for a comment on the ongoing
discussions in the Milosevic case, Landale responded that it would
not be appropriate to comment.
In response to a question by a journalist on the
meeting between Carla Del Ponte and Soren Jessen Peterson, Special
Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo, Hartmann answered
that this meeting was a working visit and the first encounter between
Ms Del Ponte and Mr. Jessen Peterson since his appointment in Kosovo.
