Registry and Chambers:

Nerma Jelačić, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon,

The Appeals Chamber is scheduled to render its Judgement in the case of Momčilo Krajišnik, one of the highest ranking war-time members of the Bosnian Serb leadership, on Tuesday, 17 March 2009 at 12:30 in Courtroom I. On 27 September 2006, Krajišnik was found guilty and sentenced to 27 years’ imprisonment for persecutions, extermination, murder, deportation and forced transfer of non-Serb civilians during the 1992-95 conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A Status Conference ahead of the judgement will take place this Friday in Courtroom III at 10:30.

A number of other Status Conferences will take place today in Courtroom I, starting with Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović at 14:15, Dragomir Milošević at 16:30 and Haradinaj and others at 17:30. Only Dragomir Milošević and Lahi Brahimaj are expected to be present in the Courtroom.

Vojislav Šešelj will return to the courtroom tomorrow morning at 8:30 for a hearing on motions and other administrative issues. The hearing of the remaining prosecution witnesses remains suspended as detailed in the 11 February decision of the Trial Chamber. 

As regards the Gotovina and others case, the Prosecution case in chief materially closed on Thursday 5 March 2009, after presenting a total of 78 witnesses. A 98 bis hearing has been scheduled to begin on 19 March and should conclude on 25 March. The Defence case is scheduled to begin 15 days after the conclusion of the 98 bis hearing.

The trials of Momčilo Perišić, Popović and others, Vlastimir Đorđević, Prlić and others and Lukić and Lukić will continue this week and next as scheduled.

Office of the Prosecutor:

Olga Kavran, Spokesperson for the Office of the Prosecutor, made the following statement:

At the invitation of the Czech EU Presidency, Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is in Prague today, meeting with state officials. This working visit is a part of the Prosecutor’s regular contacts with the European Union, one of the Tribunal’s strongest supporters. The topic of the meeting is cooperation of states with the Office of the Prosecutor as well as other issues related to the Tribunal’s mandate.

Questions:

Asked about what happened in the Lukić and Lukić hearing yesterday, which was  adjourned after having being in closed session, Nerma Jelačić explained that as the protected witness was heard in closed session, there was no further information she could provide.

Asked whether there were any news regarding the resumption of Šešelj’s trial, Nerma Jelačić said that proceedings pertaining to the remaining Prosecution witnesses remain adjourned until further notice while hearings will continue to be held to discuss administrative issues.
