Good afternoon,
President Patrick Robinson will be a key note speaker at a conference to be held in the European Parliament in Brussels tomorrow. The President will present the Tribunal’s achievements to date, as well as the institution’s progress and strategy for the successful completion of its mandate including the work to date on establishing its residual mechanisms and legacy. The conference will gather key stakeholders from EU member states, the region as well as from the ICTY and ICTR who will look into the completion strategy and residual mechanisms of the two Tribunals and the role of the EU member states in supporting this important stage of their mandate. The conference is organised by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), REDRESS and International Criminal Law Services (ICLS) with the support of the European Parliament’s Sub-Committee on Human Rights (DROI) and the Party of European Socialists (PSE).
As for this week’s court schedule:
A Status Conference in the trial of Radovan Karadžic’s will be held tomorrow at 14:15 in Courtroom I.

In the Gotovina and others trial, the Trial Chamber will deliver its oral decision on the Defence’s submission for a Judgement of Acquittal in accordance with Rule 98bis this coming Friday at 9 am in Courtroom III. The Defence case is due to begin on 28 May.
In the Lukić and Lukić trial, Milan Lukić’s defence case is due to be completed this week. Any rebuttal or rejoinder evidence will be heard between 6 and 8 April. A hearing will be held on 9 April 2009 for Chamber witnesses and housekeeping matters. Final briefs should be filed by Wednesday 15 April. Any closing arguments will be heard on 21 April 2009.
In the Popović and others trial, the Prosecution will call this afternoon a further witness to give evidence in rebuttal. The hearing of the remaining OTP witnesses and a Chamber’s witness is expected to take place by the end of this month. The final briefs are to be filed by 30 June and the closing arguments should be heard around 20 July.
The trials of Momčilo Perišić, Vlastimir Đorđević, Prlić and others will continue this week and next as scheduled.
Office of the Prosecutor:
Olga Kavran, Spokesperson for the Office of the Prosecutor, made the following statement:
Just a reminder about the conference which will also take place in Brussels tomorrow. State and War Crimes Prosecutors from the region and ICTY Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will discuss regional cooperation and cooperation with the ICTY. There will also be a press conference tomorrow at 3pm in Brussels.
Questions:
Asked about the accreditation procedure for tomorrow’s press conference in Brussels, Olga Kavran responded that no accreditation will be required. The Press Conference will be held in the “Essen” room at the Brussels Renaissance Hotel, on Rue de Parnasse 19.
