Registry and Chambers:
Nerma Jelačić, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:
Good afternoon,
On Monday, the ICTY Referral Bench dismissed Gojko Janković’s April 2010 motion, in which he sought either a trial at the Tribunal, or a re-trial in Sarajevo, on the basis of alleged flaws in his trial in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Referral Bench dismissed Janković’s motion, on the basis that it does not have jurisdiction over cases referred to national jurisdictions. The Bench also stated that the amendment of his indictment by the local court does not constitute a violation of due process and the right to a fair trial.
Janković’s case was transferred to BiH in 2005. He was convicted for a series of crimes including torture and rape against members of the Bosnian Muslim population in Foča, where he was a paramilitary leader. He was sentences to 34 years’ imprisonment by the Appeals Chamber in BiH in 2007.
Onto the court schedule:

Office of the Prosecutor:
Olga Kavran, Spokesperson for the Office of the Prosecutor, made the following statement:
Dear colleagues,
This is my last press briefing in my capacity as Spokesperson for the Prosecutor of the ICTY. As of next week, I will be working for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon as Head of Outreach.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the work we have done together over the years.
The media are absolutely crucial in aiding the Tribunal in ensuring transparency of its proceedings. It is through your responsible reporting that the general public, both in the region and internationally, acquire information about this institution.
On a more personal note, it has been a great privilege to work at the ICTY for the past twelve and half years. Though I am looking forward to my new position, it is with sadness that I leave this institution and its dedicated staff. I will remember my time here with pride and fondness.
On a more practical note, my colleague Frederick Swinnen will be available at the cell phone number you have – 065 126 9611 and, of course, Ljiljana Piteša will remain in the office and continue her work.
Thank you very much.
