ICTY Weekly Press Briefing
Date: 27.09.2006
Time: 12:00
Registry and Chambers:
Refik Hodzic, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:
SCHEDULE:
First of all, Trial Chamber I will deliver the judgment in the case of Momčilo Krajišnik at 13:00 in Courtroom I.
In the courtrooms this week all on-going trials will continue sitting. You can check our website in the coming days for the next week’s schedule.
The President of the ICTY met the French Minister of Justice in Paris yesterday.
The Tribunal’s Media Office expressed its concern over the inaccurate and misleading article headlined "Večernji in Ante Gotovina’s Cell" carried in the 23 September 2006 issue of the Croatian daily "Večernji list".
Both the headline and the caption, "Večernji's journalist visited the prison in The Hague" are entirely untrue. No Večernji list journalist has visited the Tribunal’s Detention Unit. In order to protect the privacy of the detainees, journalists are not permitted to visit the unit and no exception has been made with regard to Večernji list.
Photographs accompanying the article are said by the newspaper to show the cell of Ante Gotovina. This claim is entirely bogus. The newspaper boldly asserts "Exclusive" at the head of the article. This implies that the photographs in question were exclusively obtained by Večernji list. Again, this is a fiction. The photographs carried by the newspaper are, in fact, images made available by the Tribunal to all media agencies and are carried on the Tribunal’s website at http://www.un.org/icty/glance-e/index-du.htm
Filings:
I will draw your attention to a couple of documents that may be of interest to you, two decisions in the case of Popovic et al on the Prosecution motions for judicial notice of adjudicated facts and facts of common knowledge. They are considerably lengthy documents you can obtain from our office.
OUTREACH:
Judge Wolfgang Schomburg on Saturday participated in a conference in Prijedor which focused on the ways in which this community can overcome the legacy of war crimes committed there. The conference was organized by a local victim group with the support from the International Commission for Missing Persons and the assistance of the Registry Liaison Office in Sarajevo.
Office of the Prosecutor:
Anton Nikiforov, Advisor to the Prosecutor and acting Spokesperson of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP), made the following statement:
