Registry and Chambers:

Magdalena Spalińska, Spokesperson for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon,

I’ll begin with an update in the case of Jadranko Prlić and others. On 9 October, the Appeals Chamber granted a motion by Defence teams, supported by the Prosecution, for an extension of time for the filing of appeal briefs. The Chamber ordered that the appeal briefs be filed by 12 January 2015. The respondent and reply briefs are to be filed in May 2015.

In case of Vlastimir Đorđević, MICT President Meron’s Order of 30 April which set out that Đorđević would serve his sentence of 18 years in Germany, was made public this Tuesday, 21 October. Đorđević was transferred on 16 October.

Moving onto matters of scheduling, last week the Chamber amended its previous order in the case of Mićo Stanišić and Stojan Župljanin and ordered that the next status conference scheduled for 12 November take place in Courtroom 3 at 15:00.

The Appeal Hearing in the case of Zdravko Tolimir will take place on 12 November. Times and location will be confirmed in due course.

The next Status Conference in the case of Vujadin Popović and others will take place on 18 November at 15:30 in Courtroom I.

In the case of Ratko Mladić, the Chamber is currently hearing the testimony of Tomislav Savkić, former RS officer and municipal official in Milići.

Proceedings in the case of Goran Hadžić have been cancelled for the remainder of the week.

Finally, some news from the Tribunal’s Outreach programme. Next week, the Youth outreach project continues with a lecture at Split Law Faculty on 29 October, followed by lectures at Pristina Law Faculty, AAB Law Faculty, and Juridica Kosova on 3 and 4 November. The Outreach Programme benefits from the support of the European Union and its work with the youth of the former Yugoslavia is generously supported by the Finnish Government.

Questions

Asked how far the Trial Chamber advanced with the Šešelj case, Spalinska responded that the Judge Niang is anticipated to continue familiarising himself with the case until mid-2015, after which deliberations are expected to start.

Journalists asked about new developments regarding the health state and the continuation of the trial of Goran Hadžić. Spalinska replied that the accused is currently at the Detention Unit, and his health is being monitored. More information about the trial schedule can be expected early next week.
