TRIAL CHAMBER I,

CONSIDERING Articles 20(4) and 22 of the Statute and Rules 75, 79 and 81 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence (hereinafter "the Rules"),

CONSIDERING the Request of the Prosecutor of 12 May 1997 for an in camera hearing and for additional protective measures in respect of the identities of witnesses and statements provided to the Defence;

CONSIDERING the Request of the Prosecutor of 14 May 1997 for an emergency stay of execution in respect of the production of witness identities and statements;

CONSIDERING the Defence’s consolidated opposition to the Prosecutor’s Requests of 16 May 1997;

NOTING that the principal objective of the hearing of 23 May 1997 is the possibility of setting up protective measures for victims and witnesses;

NOTING that the Trial Chamber considers that information regarding the witnesses which might be mentioned or provided during this hearing might permit the identification of the persons affected by the requested protective measures; that the disclosure of that information to the public and the media during a public hearing might endanger the privacy and safety of the victims and witnesses;

NOTING therefore that the hearing should be held in camera;

FOR THE FOREGOING REASONS

ORDERS that the hearing scheduled for 23 May 1997 at 11 am be held in camera and that the press and public be excluded.
