Registry and Chambers:

Alexandra Milenov, Liaison Officer for
Registry and Chambers, made the following
statement:

Good Afternoon,

The Tribunal was pleased to host a working
visit of Judges of the State Court of
Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday. The
working visit was facilitated by ICTY
Outreach Programme and sponsored by the
US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s
Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development,
Assistance and Training. It was aimed
at strengthening channels of communication
between the State Court and the Tribunal,
and thus facilitating the transfer of
knowledge, experience and relevant material
that the ICTY has accumulated through
its work to the State Court. A group
of 20 national and international judges
had very fruitful meetings with the President,
Prosecutor and Registrar. President Fausto
Pocar will be very pleased to continue
the very important dialogue with the
State Court Judges in The Hague and in
Sarajevo.

The Outreach Programme also facilitated
a visit by law students from Rijeka,
Croatia, organised and sponsored by ELSA
- the European Law Students Association.
They are visiting the Tribunal from 24-27
January. They will attend briefings on
various aspects of the Tribunal's work
and will also have an opportunity to
follow the Tribunal's court proceedings.

I would like to announce that the Humanitarian
Law Center, a Belgrade-based NGO, in
cooperation with the Tribunal, is organizing
a conference this Saturday, 28 January
2006, in Belgrade on the Tribunal’s
work in trying crimes committed in Foca,
Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tribunal representatives
will travel to Belgrade to explain the
Tribunal’s efforts to hold accountable
perpetrators who committed crimes there.

In terms of court scheduling, the trial
of Republika Srpska leader Momcilo
Krajisnik is continuing in courtroom
II. Also in courtroom II is the trial
of Bosnian Army officer Naser Oric. The
trial of Yugoslav National Army officers
Milan Mrksic, Miroslav Radic and Veselin
Sljivancanin is continuing in courtroom
III, as well as the trial of Republika
Srpksa Krajina leaders Milan Martic.
After today’s session, the trial
of Slobodan Milosevic will continue in
courtroom III next week on Wednesday
1 February at 9:00am. I would like to
remind you to check the courtroom schedule
regularly in the coming weeks as there
may be scheduling changes due to the
on-going reconstruction of our courtrooms.

Jean-Daniel Ruch, Special Political
Advisor to the Prosecutor, made the following
statement:

The Prosecutor will travel to France
on Friday where she will meet the Minister
for European Affairs, Mme. Colonna, and
other French officials in Paris. She
will then travel to Lille where she will
participate in an event at the Faculty
of Law of the Catholic University of
Lille.
