is not a verbatim transcript of the Press
Briefing. It is merely a summary.
Date: 08.02.2006
Time: 12:20
Registry and Chambers:
Alexandra Milenov, Liaison Officer for
Registry and Chambers, made the following
statement:
Sredoje Lukic will appear on 13 February
2006 to plead to revised charges, in
courtroom II, at 14:30 pm. Sredoje Lukic,
a former policeman from Visegrad, is
indicted together with Milan Lukic, the
leader of a paramilitary group, for murdering,
severely beating, unlawfully detaining
and terrorising Bosnian Muslim and other
non-Serb civilians, as well as destroying
and looting their homes and personal
property. The indictment against them
is the second amended indictment, and
is posted on our website.
I would like to draw your attention
to a couple of regular status conferences
that will be held in the coming week.
In the case against Mladen Naletelic
and Vinko Martinovic, there will be a
status conference on Tuesday, 14 February
at 8:00 in courtroom II. The Tribunal
convicted Mladen Naletelic and Vinko
Martinovic, both leaders of Bosnian Croat
special armed units, to 20 and 18 years
imprisonment, respectively, for crimes
committed against Bosnian Muslim civilians.
Their case is currently under appeal.
The Trial Chamber Judgement against them
is available on our website.
In the case against former Kosovo Liberation
Army members Ramush Haradinaj, Idriz
Balaj and Lahi Brahimaj a status conference
will be held on Tuesday, 14 February
at 10:00 also in courtroom II.
A status conference in the case against
Mico Stanisic, the former Interior Minister
of the Bosnian Serb entity, will be held
at 8:00 am on Wednesday, 15 February
in courtroom II.
Finally, there will be a status conference
in the case against former Yugoslav Army
general Momcilo Perisic on Wednesday
15 February at 8:00 in courtroom I.
In terms of the court schedule, construction
in courtroom I will be finished this
week, and the courtroom will be back
in service next Monday, 13 February.
At that time renovations in courtroom
III will begin.
The trial against former Yugoslav and
Serb President Slobodan Milosevic will
move back to courtroom I on Monday, 13
February at 9:00 am and will sit next
week on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
The trial against Yugoslav Army officers
Mile Mrksic, Miroslav Radic and Veselin
Slivancanin continues this afternoon
at 14:15 and tomorrow and Friday morning
at 9:00 in courtroom III. The trial will
then move to courtroom I next week and
will sit in the afternoon on Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 14:15.
In courtroom II, the trial against Milan
Martic, a high-level political leader
of the war-time Croatian Serb entity,
continues this week on Thursday and Friday
at 9:00.
Office of the Prosecutor:
Florence Hartmann, spokesperson
for the Office of the Prosecutor, made
the following statement:
The Prosecutor is in Berlin today
meeting the German Minister of Foreign
Affairs, the Minister of Defence and
the Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chancellor.
Her visit to Italy has been postponed
until next week.
Questions:
In answer to a question on when a public
decision on Milosevic’s request
for provisional release could be expected,
Milenov answered that no decision had
yet been made. She added that as soon
as any decision was made, it would be
made public.
She further stated that a trial chamber
decision was generally announced and
distributed to the media immediately.
No extraordinary announcement was being
planned in this particular case. Asked
whether the decision would be more than
simply an oral declaration in court,
Milenov replied that the judges may make
reference to their decision during the
court proceedings, but reiterated that
paper copies of the decision should be
available as well.
