Colonel Krsmanovic remanded back to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In accordance with an Order of Trial Chamber 1, Colonel Aleksa KRSMANOVIC was returned to the custody of the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the evening of 3 April 1996.

Colonel KRSMANOVIC was transported back in a Tribunal-chartered plane. No further details will be provided.

Background

Trial Chamber 1 ordered Colonel KRSMANOVIC's return on 29 March 1996 pursuant to sub-paragraphs A and E of rule 90 bis of the Tribunal's Rules of Procedure and Evidence. In reaching its decision, Trial Chamber 1, presided over by Judge JORDA, noted Colonel KRSMANOVIC's statement that he "was not prepared to appear as a witness before the Tribunal in any case submitted to it " and the Prosecutor's statement "that the presence of Colonel Krsmanovic as a witness is no longer justified by the terms of Rule 90 bis (...)".

The Trial Chamber accordingly ordered his return.

Colonel KRSMANOVIC was brought to the Hague as a detained witness under Rule 90 bis on 12 February 1996.
