MILE MRKSIC GRANTED TEMPORARY PROVISIONAL RELEASE
ON COMPASSIONATE GROUNDS




On Friday 30 January 2004, Pre-trial Judge Carmel Agius granted Mile Mrksic temporary provisional release in order to attend his mother’s funeral in Belgrade.




Granted on compassionate grounds, Mile Mrksic’s release will begin on Saturday 31 January and will conclude "no later than 2 February".




The provisional release was granted on specific terms and conditions. One of them is the guarantee that an official of the Government of Serbia and Montenegro will travel with the accused and shall escort him at all times, until his return to The Hague. Another is that the Government of Serbia and Montenegro "shall assume responsibility for the personal security and safety of Mile
Mrksic while on provisional release."
