The Tribunal today hosted more than 60 representatives of embassies and diplomatic missions in The Netherlands at a Diplomatic Seminar to ensure that member states and others remain well informed about its activities and future plans.
The Tribunal President, Judge Fausto Pocar, provided a review of developments following the death of Slobodan Milosevic, such as the results of the inquest conducted by the Dutch authorities, as well as the progress of the Tribunal's internal inquiry. He also addressed other important matters such as the Tribunal's completion strategy, including the progress of proceedings,
courtroom renovations to accommodate multiple accused trials and cooperation with domestic courts in the former Yugoslavia.
The Chief Prosecutor, Carla Del Ponte, spoke about the activities of her office in relation to trial preparation and, in that regard, expressed her concern over the fugitive status of several indicted persons. She also informed diplomatic representatives about the cooperation with the Tribunal of states and other agencies. She highlighted the need for all agencies to fulfill their
obligations towards the Tribunal, especially in areas such as the protection of witnesses.
The Registrar of the Tribunal, Hans Holthuis, provided an overview of the Registry's many diverse activities, including the organisation of trials, ensuring the transparency of proceedings, especially in terms of reaching out to the communities of the former Yugoslavia as well as preparing the legacy of the Tribunal. The Registrar especially highlighted the need for the
international community's support in the area of sentencing enforcement and relocation of witnesses.
The Tribunal welcomes the continued interest the international community has shown in the Tribunal and is grateful for its continued support.
