Judge Meron Honoured With French Legion of Honour
Judge Theodor Meron, former president of the Tribunal will today receive the highest French national distinction, the Legion of Honour, of which he has been made an Officer. The award will be presented by the Ambassador of France to the Netherlands , acting on behalf of the French President.
A national of the United States , Judge Meron has served as a Tribunal judge since 2001 and as Tribunal president from 2003 until 2005. He is a Member of the Institute of International Law , the US Council on Foreign Relations and a Judicial Fellow and Charles L. Denison Professor Emeritus at NYU Law School .
He served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of International Law. He received the 2005 Rule of Law Award of the International Bar Association, the Hudson Medal of the American Society of International Law for extraordinary contributions to international law and has been selected for the 2008 Haskins prize awarded by the American Council of Learned Societies to a distinguished humanist.
