The United Nations Security Council, yesterday in its Resolution 2007 (2011), adopted unanimously, reappointed Serge Brammertz as Prosecutor of the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) until 31 December 2014.

Mr. Serge Brammertz was nominated for reappointment by the UN Secretary-General.

In the Resolution, the Council noted that the new term is subject 'to an earlier termination by the Security Council upon the completion of the Tribunal’s work'.

The Council recalled its Resolution 1966 (2010) of 22 December 2010, which called upon the ICTY 'to take all possible measures to expeditiously complete all its remaining  work as provided for by that Resolution no later than 31 December 2014'.

Mr. Brammertz was initially appointed Prosecutor of the ICTY on 28 November 2007. His first four-year term started on 1 January 2008.
