Two Status Conferences have been scheduled in the appeals cases of Vlastimir Đorđević and Popović and others. They are to be held on Tuesday, 9 April and Thursday, 9 May respectively.

Hearings in the trial of Radovan Karadžić continue this week and next as scheduled. The testimony of Cvijetin Simić, who is testifying about the events in Bijeljina as a former president of the municipal assembly in the town, is currently drawing to a close. He is the 107th witness to be called by the Defence so far.

Office of the Prosecutor:

No representatives from the Office of the Prosecutor were present.

Questions:

Asked about recent reports in Serbian media on a visit of a Russian delegation to the Tribunal’s Detention Unit, Magdalena Spalińska confirmed that on 25 February this year, on the request of the Accused, Ratko Mladić was visited by three members of the Russian Duma in their capacity as representatives of the Russian Public Committee in Defence of General Mladić.  Another member of the delegation was Ms Jelena Guskova, who is a member of the Russian Academy of Science. Spalińska explained that the purpose of the visit, as stated by the delegation, was to provide moral support to Mladić. There was no inspection of the Detention Unit, neither was there any medical examination of the Accused. Spalińska added that the approval of the visit was granted for two days, 25th and 26th February, in line with Rule 61 of the ICTY’s Rules of Detention. Spalińska added that the three visitors from the Russian Duma chose not to return to the UNDU on 26th, and only Ms Guskova returned on that day.
