The Tribunal’s representative in BiH, Almir Alić, held a workshop today in “Meša Selimović” high school in Tuzla for a group of five high school teachers. The workshop was delivered as part of the Tribunal’s Youth Outreach Project. Its aim was to train the participating teachers to give quality presentations on the work and legacy of the Tribunal to students in their respective schools.
Teachers of history, law, democracy and human rights were introduced to the Tribunal’s establishment, mandate and key achievements. They were also presented with a comprehensive set of information materials which they could use in their future presentations. Together with the Tribunal’s representative, the teachers further explored different modalities for presenting and discussing themes related to the Tribunal’s work in their classrooms.
The ICTY Outreach Programme greatly values the exchange and engagement with high school teachers and university professors in the former Yugoslavia, as these educators are best positioned to pass on information and understanding of the Tribunal’s work to generations of students in the region.
