Milan Simic Granted Early Release
On 27 October 2003, the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Judge Theodor Meron, granted Milan Simic’s Request for early release, effective 3 November 2003.
Simic, President of the Executive Board of the Bosanski Samac Assembly, from 30 May 1992 until 24 June 1993, voluntarily surrendered on 14 February 1998. He was transferred to the Tribunal on 15 February 1998 and was provisionally released on 7 June 2000. He returned to the Tribunal on 13 August 2001 and pleaded guilty to two counts of torture as crimes against humanity on 15 May 2002. On 17 October 2002, the Trial Chamber sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment.
Fourteen convicted persons are currently serving their sentences (Dusko Sikirica, Vladimir Santic, Drago Josipovic, Stevan Todorovic, Anto Furundzija, Dusko Tadic, Zoran Vukovic, Radomir Kovac, Dragoljub Kunarac, Goran Jelisic, Biljana Plavsic, Esad Landzo, Hazim Delic, and Milorad Krnojelac.)
