The Prosecutor v. Limaj et al. Agim Murtezi Released Following the Withdrawal of the Indictment against him.

Today, Friday 28 February 2003, Judge Liu Daqun ordered the immediate release of Agim Murtezi from detention and his return to Kosovo.

The decision by Judge Liu concluded a hearing during which the indictment against Agim Murtezi was withdrawn, following a Prosecution’s Motion and a Defence’s Urgent Response, both filed on 28 February.

Agim Murtezi was initially indicted by the Prosecutor on 27 January, detained by KFOR forces on 17 February and transferred the following day to the Detention Unit of the Tribunal (see press release 729). On 20 February, during his initial appearance before Judge Liu, Agim Murtezi pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against him. Some days later, his Defence lawyer issued a Statement on behalf of Agim Murtezi "claiming that he is not the person referred to in the indictment" (see press release 733).
