Earlier today the Trial Chamber in the Popović et al. case granted provisional release on compassionate grounds to Vinko Pandurević, former Lieutenant Colonel in command of the Zvornik Brigate of the Drina Corps of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS).
Pandurević has been granted temporary provisional release for a total of 10 days under certain terms and conditions to attend a memorial service for his father. He is ordered to return to the Tribunal no later than 8 January 2008.
Vinko Pandurević is charged with six others for with crimes committed against Bosnian Muslims in the Srebrenica and Žepa enclaves in the summer of 1995. Earlier this month the same Trial Chamber granted temporary provisional release during the Tribunal's upcoming winter recess to two co-accused, Radivoje Miletić and Milan Gvero.
The Popović et al. trial commenced on 14 July 2006. The prosecution is ordered to close its case-in-chief no later than 1 February 2008. Following any 98bis submissions, the pre-defence conference will be held on 22 May 2008, with the defence case commencing on 2 June 2008.
