ICTY Weekly Press Briefing

Registry and Chambers:
Jim Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers,
made the following statement:
Good afternoon,
The Defence Case in the Milosevic trial is now
scheduled to commence on Monday 19 July at 9 a.m. in Courtroom I,
subject to the health of the accused and pending a medical report
due to be filed with the Trial Chamber by the end of the week. The
trial is scheduled to run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next
week from 9 to 1.45 p.m. The trial will then be adjourned until
Tuesday 31 August 2004. We will keep you informed of any changes
to that schedule.
The period for media to accredit themselves for
the start of the Milosevic Defence Case closes at 3 p.m. this afternoon.
The list of journalists granted accreditation will
be posted on our website at around 5.30 p.m. today, so those of
you who are granted a place in the public gallery can pick up tickets
either on Friday afternoon, between 3 and 5 p.m. or on Monday morning
between 8 to 8.30 a.m. I would make a plea for those who can to
pick up their tickets on Friday to do so and avoid a last minute
rush on Monday morning.
In terms of the remainder of the court schedule:
There will be a status conference in The Prosecutor
v. Radovan Stankovic tomorrow, 15 July at 3 p.m. in Courtroom
II.
There will be a motion hearing in The Prosecutor
v. Momcilo Krajisnik on Friday 16 July at 2.15 p.m. in Courtroom
III.
There will be a status conference in The Prosecutor
v. Prlic, Stojic, Praljak, Petkovic, Coric and Pusic on Monday
19 July at 2.30 p.m. in Courtroom III. A hearing to address the
Motions for Provisional Release of the Accused will be held immediately
following the status conference. The Trial Chamber also invited
"the Government of the Republic of Croatia to present, either
in writing before Monday, 19 July 2004 or orally by attending the
scheduled hearing on that day, its assurance that the Accused, if
provisionally released, will appear for trial".
There will also be a status conference in The
Prosecutor v. Naser Oric on 19 July at 2.30 p.m.
This morning Outreach hosted a group of 30 public
officials from Kosovo. The visit incorporated a courtroom tour and
a briefing by Outreach. The visit to the Tribunal was part of a
'Summer School on Drafting Legislation' hosted by the Academy of
Legislation in The Hague.
Finally, I understand that the ADC will give a
briefing after this.

Office of the Prosecution:
Florence Hartman for the Office of the Prosecutor made no statement.
Questions:
In answer to a question from a journalist as to whether reports in
a Belgrade tabloid stating that Radovan Karadzic had been arrested
on 1 July 2004 were true, both Landale and Hartman answered that,
to their knowledge, it was not true.
