Refik Hodžić, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:
In the Monday’s meeting with the Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sven Alkalaj, the Tribunal’s President Fausto Pocar underlined his position that any decision on closing down of the ICTY, made by the UN Security Council, should leave in place residual judicial mechanisms to ensure that any remaining fugitives are tried in The Hague. President Pocar also stressed the satisfactory cooperation between the ICTY and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stated that the international community should continue supporting this institution and its work. The ICTY has to date transferred nine accused to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for trial. The case against Radovan Stanković has been completed, Gojko Janković has been convicted by the Trial Chamber and the other cases are ongoing.
A journalist asked for a reaction from the OTP to today’s Appeals judgement which acquitted Vidoje Blagojević for complicity in genocide. Kavran replied that the OTP team in this case needed to read the full judgement before it could make any statements.
