REGISTRY AND CHAMBERS

Jim
Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

The
initial appearance for Sefer Halilovic is expected to be held tomorrow, on Thursday
at 3 p.m. in Courtroom III. If there is any change to the timing of the hearing,
I will let you know. This case has been assigned to Trial Chamber III. You are
of course welcome to attend.

On
19 September 2001, Judge May, the pre-trial Judge in the Milosevic case, issued
an order directing the Registrar of the Tribunal to immediately provide the
amici curiae with copies of all material, including confidential material,
provided to the accused. However, the Registrar is not required to provide any
filing that may have been made on an ex parte basis. The amici curiae
were ordered to maintain and preserve the confidentiality of such documents.

The
second new Appeals Chamber Judge has arrived here in The Hague. Judge Asoka
de Zoysa Gunawardana was assigned to the Appeals Chamber of the Tribunal by
the President of the ICTR on 1 June 2001. Judge Gunawardana, who is from Sri
Lanka, has been assigned to the Krstic appeal. He is expected to take his solemn
oath sometime next week.

Finally,
in the Martinovic & Naletilic case, tomorrow’s hearing will commence at
2.30 p.m. instead of 9.30 a.m., so the trial will run from 2.30 – 5.30 p.m.
only. In addition, on Friday the trial will run from 9.30 until one o’clock,
and then from 2.30 until 5.30 p.m.

Florence
Hartmann, Spokeswoman for the Office of the Prosecutor, made no statement.

QUESTIONS:

Asked
whether there was any decision yet concerning Momcilo Krajisnik’s request
for provisional release, Landale replied that there was not.
