Good afternoon,
I’ll turn first to some developments in the Tribunal’s ongoing cases since our last press briefing on 10 September.
In the case of Radovan Karadžić, on 12 September the Chamber denied the Accused’s motion to reopen his case in order to admit a document received from the US Authorities. The Chamber found that the probative value of the document, a cable from a former US Army officer, was low. The Chamber also observed that hearing the evidence of the officer would cause a significant delay in proceedings.
In case of Nikola Šainović and others, MICT President Meron’s Order of 31 March which set out that Šainović would serve his sentence of 18 years in Sweden, was made public this Tuesday, 23 September. Šainović has been transferred on 18 September.
On matters of scheduling, the next Status Conference in the case of Zdravko Tolimir has been scheduled to be held on 22 October at 15:30 in Courtroom 1.
Moving onto this week in the courtrooms, in the case of Ratko Mladić, the Chamber is currently hearing the testimony of Desimir Šarenac, former Republika Srpska Army officer in the area of Sarajevo.
In the case of Goran Hadžić, the Chamber is currently hearing the testimony of Sergija Veselinović, former President of the municipality of Obrovac, in Croatia.
Finally a reminder that Closing Arguments in the case of Radovan Karadžić will begin next Monday, 29 September at 9:00 until 16:00 in Courtroom I. The parties’ closing arguments are expected to be held from Monday, 29 September to Thursday, 2 October and will be followed by the rebuttal and rejoinder arguments on Tuesday, 7 October.
