Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte was in Brussels today where she met with Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Olli Rehn, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement. At the invitation of the European Policy Centre (EPC), Prosecutor Del Ponte also spoke at the Policy Briefing organised by the EPC in association with the Mission of Switzerland to the European Union.

In her meetings with High Representative Solana and Commissioner Rehn, Prosecutor Del Ponte discussed current issues and assessed the cooperation of states in the area of the former Yugoslavia with the Office of the Prosecutor.

In her speech at the European Policy Centre, the Prosecutor provided a preliminary assessment of the last eight years in the work of the Office of the Prosecutor, specifically focusing on the challenges of bringing senior political and military leaders to justice, current progress and the completion strategy, the contribution to the development of international criminal and international humanitarian law, the selection of suspects and transfer of information and cases to national prosecutors and courts and the complexity of international investigations and prosecutions in general.
