Florence Hartmann Indicted For Contempt

A Trial Chamber of the Tribunal today issued an Order in lieu of an indictment against Florence Hartmann on two counts of contempt of the Tribunal.

The Order summons Hartmann, a one-time spokesperson of a former Tribunal Prosecutor, to appear before the court at 15:00 on 15 September 2008.

The Trial Chamber, “Orders the prosecution of Florence Hartmann … for knowingly and willfully disclosing information in knowing violation of an order of a Chamber.”

The Order specifies that Hartmann is alleged to have authored text published in 2007 and 2008 that disclosed information relating to confidential decisions of the Tribunal’s Appeals Chamber in the case of Slobodan Milošević.

The Order states that, “Florence Hartmann knew that the information was confidential at the time disclosure was made, that the decisions from which the information was drawn were ordered to be filed confidentially, and that by her disclosure she was revealing confidential information to the public.”
