The ICTY Judges' Visit to Zagreb has elicited a significant Dialogue.
Judges Almiro Rodrigues, Fouad Riad and Patricia Wald returned satisfied on Thursday 21 September from a three-day working visit to Zagreb, Republic of Croatia (see Press Release No 526).
This visit was organised by the Tribunal’s Outreach Programme. The Judges met with the Croatian Minister of Justice, Administration and Local Self-Government, Prof. Dr. Stjepan Ivanisevic, judges of the highest judicial bodies as well as of local courts and tribunals, the Acting-Attorney General of the Republic of Croatia and his deputies, senior officials of the Croatian Bar Association, professors and students of the Zagreb Law Faculty, and representatives of a variety of international organisations. It concluded with a dinner hosted by Her Excellency Mrs. Ana Barata, Ambassador of Portugal to Croatia.
SIGNIFICANT DIALOGUE
These meetings were characterized by open exchanges that covered a wide range of issues. The discussions gave the ICTY Judges an opportunity to listen to their hosts’ concerns.
The issues discussed covered procedural matters as well as the substance of the law applied by the Tribunal. The discussions confirmed the continuing interest and in-depth knowledge of the Croatian hosts in the operations of the Tribunal.
The Judges consider these three enriching days as a first step towards achieving the best possible relationship of mutual understanding, trust and cooperation between the Tribunal and the authorities of Croatia.
