Judge Claude Jorda re-elected by Acclamation as President
and Judge Shahabuddeen elected as Vice-President.

Today, Friday 23 November 2001, the Judges of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) re-elected by acclamation Judge Claude Jorda as President and elected Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen as Vice-President of the ICTY for a mandate of two years.

During the extraordinary plenary session, the President announced the composition of the Chambers. The new composition of the Appeals Chamber and the three Trial Chambers of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is:

The Appeals Chamber:

Judge Jorda (France), Presiding,
Judge Shahabuddeen (Guyana),
Judge Hunt (Australia),
Judge Güney (Turkey),
Judge Gunawardana (Sri Lanka),
Judge Pocar (Italy),
Judge Meron (United States of America).

Trial Chamber I:

Judge Liu (China), Presiding,
Judge Elmahdi (Egypt),
Judge Orie (Netherlands).

Trial Chamber II:

Judge Schomburg (Germany), Presiding,
Judge Mumba (Zambia),
Judge Agius (Malta).

Trial Chamber III:

Judge May (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) , Presiding,
Judge Robinson (Jamaica),
Judge Kwon (Korea).

The assignment of the cases to the Chambers will be announced in due course.
