The Tribunal President, Judge Fausto Pocar, met Franco Frattini, the European Commission Vice-President, to discuss present and future cooperation between ICTY and European Commission.
In the course of the meeting held yesterday in Brussels, they discussed the need to facilitate efficient cooperation between judicial institutions of the countries of the former Yugoslavia in war crimes cases. The discussion focused on the role of the European Commission in facilitating such cooperation and the need for Tribunal's assistance in the matter. Pocar and Frattini
addressed the efforts of ICTY to assist judicial bodies in the region and possible models of cooperation with EC in strengthening the rule of law in the Balkans.
President Pocar concluded the meeting by inviting Vice-President Frattini to visit the Tribunal.
