An Appeals Chamber judgement in the case against the former Bosnian Serb politician Blagoje Simić will be rendered on Tuesday, 28 November 2006 at 9:00 in courtroom I.


Blagoje Simić was convicted and sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment by the Trial Chamber for persecutions of non-Serb civilians in the municipality of Bosanski Šamac in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina between 17 April 1992 and 31 December 1993. The non-Serb civilians were detained and confined under inhumane conditions, lacking sufficient space, food or water and were subjected to
torture including sexual assaults, the extraction of teeth and threat of execution.


The Trial Chamber also found Simić to be at the top of the joint criminal enterprise in Bosanski Šamac, whose aim was persecution of non-Serbs.


Simić was indicted along with Miroslav Tadić and Simo Zarić. Tadić was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and released on 4 November 2004. Zarić was sentenced to six years' imprisonment and was released on 28 January 2004.
