The Hague, 25 September 2006

CVO/MO/PA283e

Trial Chamber I will deliver the judgment in the case of Momčilo Krajišnik, a former Bosnian Serb political leader, on Wednesday, 27 September 2006 at 13:00 in Courtroom I.

Krajišnik is charged with genocide and/or complicity to commit genocide, crimes against humanity and murder as violation of the laws or customs of war.

The Prosecution charged him with participating in a joint criminal enterprise which perpetrated a widespread campaign of killing and persecution of Bosnian Muslims, Bosnian Croats and other non-Serbs in 37 municipalities in Bosnia-Herzegovina, from late 1991 to the end of 1992. The Prosecution alleges that, during this period, Krajišnik held a prominent position in the Bosnian Serb
leadership. According to the indictment, he was a member of the National Security Council, the Expanded Presidency of the “Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, the Main Board of the Serbian Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDS) and the Bosnian Serb Assembly, of which he was also President.

Krajišnik was indicted on 25 February 2000. He was arrested and transferred to the Tribunal on 3 April 2000, and stood trial from 3 February 2004 to 31 August 2006.

In the closing arguments the Prosecution requested that a life sentence be imposed, while the defence sought an acquittal.
